My Brother's Wedding

This lost 1983 classic from indie maverick Charles Burnett (Killer of Sheep, To Sleep with Anger) was never completed to the director's satisfaction until a 2007 collaboration between Burnett and the Berkeley Pacific Film Archive. Now, viewers can see the tragic-comedy as it was meant to be seen. Everett Silas stars as a working-class man from Watts who agrees--against his better judgement--to serve as best man at the wedding for his upwardly mobile lawyer brother. Like all of Burnett's work, this is slow, near-silent slice-of-life stuff, but powerfully observed. 83 minutes
