The Coen brothers (Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou?) finally surrender fully to the lure of film noir, contributing a full-fledged 1940 crime flick in glorious black-and-white. Billy Bob Thornton stars as the title character, a humble barber who casually explores a blackmail scheme. Naturally, things don't go as planned, resulting in much tragedy. 116 minutes
