Canadian auteur Atom Egoyan (Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter) gets back to his intimate character study roots with this mutilevel mystery. An orphaned high school student (Devon Bostick) is given an assignment to translate a news story into French. In rewriting the clip about a Middle Eastern terrorist and his fiancée, the boy reimagines it (or does he?) as part of his own family history. In time, the story reaches the Internet and takes on a controversial life of its own. It's hard to tell what's real and what's imagined in this circular tale, but it's ultimately not meant to confuse. Rather, it's a story about deeply confused people. If you're a fan of Egoyan, you'll appreciated the tangled and emotional web his characters spin for themselves. 100 minutes R.
