Summer Hours

Always interesting Frenchman Olivier Assayas (writer/director of Irma Vep and Late August, Early September) tackles this simple family drama about a trio of adult siblings (Juliette Binoche, Charles Berling, Jérémie Renier) who clash over a fortune in art when their mother dies unexpectedly. There's plenty of sibling rivalry, long-lost childhood memories and discussions of life and death. But Assayas has created a lyrical blend of humor and heartbreak that relies as much on art and nature as it does human emotion. In French with English subtitles. 103 minutes
