Somebody at MGM realized that the 1980 song-and-dance semi-classic Fame is kind like High School Musical crossed with "American Idol." Naturally, they fast-tracked an "updated" remake. It must be better than the original, because instead of being directed by old geezer Alan Parker (Midnight Express, Mississippi Burning, The Commitments), it's directed by a twentysomething dude who gave us such danceriffic reality shows as "Dancelife" and "The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll." 107 minutes PG.
