Though it's based on a true story, this by-the-book inspirational sports drama is almost too sappy, hokey and preachy to believe. It tells the story of a scrappy team of underdogs (natch) who emerged from Monterrey, Mexico, to claim the Little League World Series title in 1957. Clifton Collins Jr. (Star Trek) is a boozy Big League loser who dries up and becomes the perfect coach. Cheech Marin is the wacky parish priest who talks about God an awful lot (even for a priest). The film is well-meaning, but it plays out like a cheap TV movie.118 minutes PG.
