A 12-year-old Welsh boy (fine young actor John Paul McLeod) tries to come to grips with his parents' impending divorce, the onset of puberty and a thorny question of religeous faith in this humble British drama. Like the fine but little-seen film The Third Miracle , this one deals with issues of belief and faith with honesty, realism and a total lack of phony-baloney "Touched By an Angel" mysticism. Our titular character is assisted on his quest for cosmic understanding by a kindly piano teacher and self-avowed "faith healer" (the late Ian Bannen). Without espousing any particular religeous bent, this touching drama explores issues such as self-esteem, self-empowerment and hope. Certainly different than the typical Hollywood fare.
