Queen of the Damned

Freely adapted from one of Anne Rice's silliest vampire books, this campy gothic adventure movie follows bad boy vampire Lestat (downgraded from Tom Cruise status to newcomer Stuart Townsend level) as he attempts to become a pop singing sensation. Lestat's boy band ambitions anger the rest of vampire kind, who prefer to maintain a low profile. Eventually, the much-touted Mother of All Vampires (late R&B singer Aaliyah) shows up to punish our singing bloodsucker. Jonathan Davis of Korn provides the vampire vocals and Aaliyah wears a lot of skimpy costumes. At least Australian director Michael Rymer (Angel Baby) seems to be having fun with the over-the-top atmosphere. 101 minutes
