Writer-director Rob Reiner (still coasting on When Harry Met Sally ... fumes) adapts Wendelin Van Draanen's tween coming-of-age novel about two second-graders who meet and fall in love despite being total opposites. The film follows them all the way to high school, milking the early-'60s nostalgia and slooooowly watching them fall in love. Key scenes are shown from both his and her perspective, meaning we have to watch them twice. It's like Rashoman crossed with When Harry Met Sally ..., only cornier. And aimed at kids. Kids who love "Mad Men." Aidan Quinn, Penelope Ann Miller, Rebecca De Mornay and Anthony Edwards are stuck on mom and dad duty.90 minutes PG.
