Panic Room

Director David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club) and screenwriter David Keopp (Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible) have taken the typical domestic thriller to the next, breathless level. Jodie Foster stars as a recently divorced mother who moves into a New York townhome with her teenage daughter. Their new home is equipped with a concrete-lined, video monitor-filled "panic room," which (coincidentally) comes in handy the very first night. Seems a gang of amateur sneakthieves is looking for a fortune hidden somewhere within the house. The resultant cat-and-mouse game borrows the best of Hitchcock and tosses in a few high-tech thrills. There are plenty of logical hiccups, but none of them seem to interrupt the flow of the film. 101 minutes
