After the popular Chungking Express, Asian sensualist Wong Kar-Wai happily wallowed in his own unique style with this 1995 crime(ish) flick about a disillusioned killer (Leon Lai) who may be in love with his female "manager." There's also a mute who breaks into grocery stores at night. And some other people. But it doesn't really matter. Characters and story are sort of incidental. Wong is using his frenetic, insistent camera to paint a Jean-Luc Godard-style portrait of neon-lit nighttime Hong Kong. In Cantonese with English subtitles. Double-featured with Days of Being Wild. 96 minutes R.
