After 2006's odd, showy detour of Marie Antoinette, Sofia Coppola returns to intimate Lost in Translation territory with this undersized charmer about a hard-living Hollywood actor (Stephen Dorff) who re-evaluates his life (sort of) after his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) comes for a visit. Like Lost in Translation, this story unfolds almost entirely inside one hotel--in this case, Hollywood's storied Chateau Marmont. It's a story about isolation, numbness and the curiously entitled world of movie stardom. It's a subject Coppola knows well. 97 minutes R.
