British author J.R. Ackerley's acclaimed, post-World War II memoir comes to life as an animated film. By turns raw, earthy and honest, the film chronicles Ackerley's unwavering love for his troublesome Alsatian, Tulip. Christopher Plummer provides the narration (with an occasional vocal assist from Lynn Redgrave and Isabella Rossellini). The animation style is loose and sketchy in that New Yorker cartoon kind of way. All in all, a charming, warts-and-all recollection for people who love their animals unconditionally.83 minutes Unrated.
