Imagining Mina

Mauro Mina arrived on the U.S. boxing scene in 1962 from his native Peru and took the sport by storm. On the verge of becoming the first Latino light-heavyweight champion, he was toppled by the very same forces who propelled him to the top. This documentary traces a common man's journey toward greatness and includes rare archival images of legendary American pugilists--including Albuquerque's own Bob Foster. A fascinating look inside an all-but-forgotten chapter of racial and boxing history. Director Alfredo Bejar will be at Guild Cinema to introduce the film and to participate in a post-film Q&A. 105 minutes
