The Upsetter: The Life and Music of Lee Scratch Perry

This documentary biopic (narrated by Benicio Del Toro, of all people) introduces viewers to the life story of Jamaican musical legend Lee "Scratch" Perry. The man virtually invented the genres of reggae and dub in a ramshackle home studio in Kingston back in the '60s. With the occasional quote from worshippers like The Clash and Paul McCartney thrown in for good measure, the film chronicles Perry's rise to fame and his bizarre, decades-long departure from the public eye. Perry's recollections are occasionally a bit, let's say drug-hazed. But it's a hell of a story for music fans. 95 minutes
