Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

Way back in the 1970s, they made awesome TV movies like Trilogy of Terror, Satan's School for Girls and this haunted house / monster movie hybrid. Now, Mexican-born horror guru Guillermo del Toro (Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) co-writes and co-produces this budget-conscious, CGI-enhanced remake. Story concerns a 9-year-old girl who moves into a creepy old mansion with her happy family (Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes). Unfortunately (for them), the place is filled with tiny goblins, intent on scaring the piss out of the new residents. It's scary enough to traumatize kids (much like the original) but not nearly effective enough impress adults. 99 minutes R.
