Set Me Free (Emporte-Moi)

This Canadian import relates the emotional coming-of-age tale of a young Montreal girl growing up in the early 1960s. Saddled with a distant, failed writer of a father and a suicidal seamstress of a mother, 13-year-old Hanna (magnetic newcomer Karine Vanasse) finds inspiration in the silver screen. Using the housewife-turned-prostitute heroine of Jean-Luc Godard's My Life to Live as her role model, our protagonist navigates the various social, sexual and familial crises of her downbeat life. In French with English subtitles. 95 minutes
