The Red Machine

Historical crime thriller is an unusual genre for a low-budget indie film, but The Red Machine tackles it with notable aplomb. In it, a disgraced spy and a snazzy safecracker team up to steal the Japanese version of the famous Nazi cryptography machine known as Enigma. Set in Washington in the 1930s, the film has a certain pulpy flair. There aren't a lot of stunts or chase scenes here, but the filmmakers nail the tense mechanics of the classic film noir heist film. 84 minutes
