Filmmaker Richard Linklatter (Slacker, Waking Life) contributes one of his most daring cinematic exercises with this intimate, shot-on-digital-video drama. The film takes place entirely in a hotel room where a drug-dealing loser (Ethan Hawke) is meeting an old high school friend (Robert Sean Leonard) who is screening a movie at a local film festival. Our protagonist believes that his old pal once raped a girl and is dead set on confronting him about it. Eventually, the girl (Uma Thurman) makes an appearance, and the question of who did what to whom becomes even more murky. It's essentially a claustrophobic three-character play about eroding friendships, but the uncomfortable emotions have an unshakable confessional quality 86 minutes
