Deuces Wild

Remember back in the early '80s when novelist S.E. Hinton was getting all the junior high school gals all sweaty with his sensitive bad boy opuses The Outsiders and Rumble Fish? Well, it looks like it's time for a revival. Deuces Wild wasn't written by Hinton, but it might as well have been. What we have is a relatively accurate portrait of scrap-happy Brooklyn street gangs circa 1955. Brad Renfro (Ghost World) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) are a couple hunky, leather jacket-wearing toughs trying to defend their neighborhood from the newfound scourge of drugs. Their rivals are the nasty Vipers (led by equally hunky Norman Reedus of Blade II). The film is a bit violent and occasionally lapses into melodrama, but who among us can refuse a good switchblade fight? For nostalgia's sake, Matt Dillon (star of the screen adaptations for both The Outsiders and Rumble Fish) even shows up. 96 minutes
