The Black Power Mixtape: 1967-1975

Back in the late '60s, a team of Swedish journalists came to the U.S. to capture stories of urban unrest and revolution. What they wound up with were eye-opening interviews with the leaders of the growing black power movement. For 30 years, these 16mm films languished in the basement of a Swedish TV station. Now, they've been revived, restored and mixed together into this revealing documentary. Among the people interviewed: Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Angela Davis, Eldridge Cleaver. Throw in music, contemporary news images and commentary from contemporary African-American activists (Harry Belafonte, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Melvin Van Peebles) and you've got an exhilarating account of a historic American movement. 92 minutes
