Meryl Streep adopts a flawless English accent to play noted British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in this dutiful biopic from director Phyllida Lloyd (Mama Mia!). Streep is impeccable. Too bad the story spends so much time covering imaginary conversations between a senile Thatcher and her dead husband (Jim Broadbent) and not enough arguing for her political bona fides. Good or bad, Thatcher was a fascinating person--a fact this scattershot, oddly apolitical film never really convinces us of. 105 minutes PG-13.
