A pair of renowned Talmudic scholars (one young and outgoing, one old and misanthropic) go head-to-head with each another--despite the fact that they're actually father and son. But when dad is suddenly nominated for the honorable Israel Prize, a major reboot of their relationship is in order. This darkly, almost comically esoteric drama is obviously more tailored to Jewish and academic audiences. Still, writer-director Joseph Cedar (Beaufort) crafts a stimulating and finely detailed character study. In Hebrew with English subtitles. 103 minutes PG.
