In this surprisingly incisive look at race relations, an Iranian-born teenager living in New Jersey thinks of herself as an ordinary American--at least until the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis causes friends and neighbors to turn against her. It's a modest film, but one that seems particularly prescient in today's post-9/11 climate. The story is simple and rather "message"-oriented, but some sympathetic scripting and a very natural performance from newcomer Miriam Parris make for a thought-provoking bit of cinema. 87 minutes
