Fanboys Tim Burton and Johnny Depp join forces once again to re-expose America to the campy, late-'60s/early-'70s supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows. Depp takes over as Barnabas Collins, cursed by a vengeful witch (Eva Green) to become a bloodsucking vampire. Stuck in the ground for a couple of centuries, he's revived in 1972 New England to find his once-prosperous family now composed of dysfunctional oddballs (Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller and Chloë Grace Moretz among them). There are plenty of fine moments, but the tone never gels in a satisfactory way--veering from spooky, Hammer Studios horror to fish-out-of-water comedy. 113 minutes PG-13.
