Arnold Schwarzenegger's steady rise to the top of the '80s box office heap began with the pulpy goodness of this 1982 fantasy classic. It's scripted in manly fashion by Oliver Stone (Scarface) and directed in even manlier fashion by John Milius (who gave us that other '80s touchstone Red Dawn). At its best, this sword-and-sorcery saga captures much of the spirit of Robert E. Howard's original novels. At worst, it spawned a thousand Italian knockoffs.
