Four days in the about-to-expire life of Marie Antoinette are explored in this courtly French drama. The story is told through the perspective of Antoinette's favorite reader (Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol's Léa Seydoux), an innocent gal caught up in the chaos of war. The film implies the two ladies might have had a more intimate relationship, but doesn't really bother to get into it. Instead, we're presented with a fairly gritty portrait of life inside the revolution-besieged palace. Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) is glorious as our reigning queen.
