This controversial, based-on-a-true-story drama takes us to a fast-food restaurant in the middle of suburban nowhere. A man telephones the manager (longtime character actress Ann Dowd), telling her that one of her cashiers (Dreama Walker from "The B---- in Apt. 23") has stolen some money from a customer. The young cashier is sequestered in the store's office and made to endure a litany of mental, physical and sexual abuses instigated by the man on the phone. None of it seems remotely believable—except that it all happened pretty much exactly as the film lays out. This scary treatise on human gullibility may test the patience of less sympathetic audience members, but the acting is excellent and the story is sure to generate some major discussion.89 minutes R.
