Various conspiracy theories based on the "true meaning" of Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror film The Shining are explored in this semiotics-heavy documentary. Some of the obsessive theories are odd (the entire film is a parable about the genocide of Native Americans), others are just plain wacky (it's actually a secret apology on the part of Kubrick for faking the Apollo moon landing in a Hollywood studio). Though amusingly examined, these ideas (and their creators) aren't held up to ridicule. The point filmmakers are trying to make with this kaleidoscopic deconstruction is that great art is open to multiple interpretations. There is no "right" and "wrong." Whether you believe any of it or not, you'll never look at the film the same way again. 104 minutes Unrated.
