British social realist Ken Loach (The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Sweet Sixteen, My Name is Joe, Kes) adds some comedy to this buoyant, knockabout tale of a Scottish scalawag (newcomer Paul Brannigan) who promises to go straight after the birth of his son. Of course being a law-abiding citizen would be a lot easier with a little dough. So our boy cooks up a scheme with a bunch of ex-cons on community service to skim some very expensive whisky from a local distillery. Improbably, charmingly uplifting. Winner of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize.
