The crew behind the Pirates of the Caribbean films tries to apply the same Disney template to this reboot of the 1930s Western radio serial. Johnny Depp steals the show, takes it to a pawn shop, fences it, gets caught and is stuck doing five years in the state pen. It's not entirely his fault. The script seems mostly embarrassed by the concept of the Lone Ranger and keeps the character (played by Armie Hammer) buried well in the background. The action is huge, and there are glimpses of fun. But the film is way too long, meandering and confused as to what it wants to be. 149 minutes PG-13.
