A glum 14-year-old kid is stuck spending his summer vacation at a crappy beachside cabin with his divorced mom (Toni Collette) and her lousy new boyfriend (Steve Carell). Looking for escape he ends up with a job at a run-down local water park. There, he meets a friend and mentor in the park's slackadaisical manager (the great Sam Rockwell). It's a fairly typical coming-of-age dramedy, but screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (The Descendants) give their cast some wise, witty material to work with. 103 minutes PG-13.
