An Oversimplification of Her Beauty

This wildly imaginative experimental film finds Afro-bohemian artist Terence Nance ruminating on that time his would-be girlfriend (or was she?) ditched him for what he assumed was a date (or was it?). After that he went out and shot a short film recounting the entire incident and explaining his true feelings for her. Then he showed her the film. Later on, of course, he made this feature, recounting all of the above. Complete with animated interludes, a mocking narration and tons of self-doubting inner monologue. It's an odd, showy effort--but it's pretty darn irresistible, bringing to mind all those times we've wondered whether a certain someone liked us or not. 84 minutes Unrated.
