Blue Is the Warmest Color

A 16-year-old girl falls in love with a blue-haired art student in this explicit romantic drama. Director Abdellatif Kechiche (The Secret of the Grain) doesn't exactly shy away from the sexual antics of nubile young lesbians--in fact he sort of revels in them. The acting--particularly by newcomer Adèle Exarchopoulos--is revelatory. The sex is, well, copious and beautifully shot. If only Kechiche had been a little more scrupulous on the editing. At three hours in length, the film sticks around a bit too long. In French with English subtitles. 175 minutes NC-17.
