Mr. Nobody

This French/German/Canadian/Belgian co-production stars Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) and Sarah Polley (Dawn of the Dead). The "plot" consists of a 118-year-old man--the last mortal left alive in a sexless future where humans can regenerate infinitely--relating his life story. Rather than tell it like it is (was?), our protagonist spins off on several different pathways, exploring the alternate routes his life could have taken. From this insanely ambitious scenario, writer-director Jaco Van Dormael (Toto the Hero) spins a fantastical 2 1/2-hour fantasy romance that blends flashbacks, time-lapse photography, underwater camerawork, deep-space imagery and just about any bizarre visual trick imaginable. Released in 2009, this Cloud Atlas-esque film gathered a cult following in Europe. It's only now being released in America. 141 minutes R.
