Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcie May Marlene), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Tom Felton (the Harry Potter series) star in this pitch-black love story based on the "scandalous" novel by Émile Zola. In 1860s France an orphaned girl (Olsen) is married off to her sickly cousin (Felton). For years, she endures a heartless stepmother (Jessica Lange) and a loveless marriage. One heavy-breathing day, however, her husband's bohemian artist pal (Isaac) shows up, kicking off a naughty, early-Victorian affair. Eventually the adulterous couple decide things would be a lot easier without hubby in the picture. It's got some beautifully dark moments, but the predictable story isn't nearly as scandalous as it was 150 years ago.102 minutes R.
