For the first time in 23 years, Chilean film alchemist Alejandro Jodorowsky (The Holy Mountain, El Topo, Santa Sangre) picks up a camera. This almost Felliniesque mix of personal history, symbolism and visual poetry is a semi-autobiographical look at Jodorowsky's unhappy and alienated childhood as part of an uprooted family in rural Chile. It's plenty trippy, but it's also one of the surrealist filmmaker's most intimate and accessible works. In Spanish with English subtitles. 130 minutes Unrated.
