White Bird in a Blizzard

Indie provocateur Gregg Araki (The Doom Generation, Mysterious Skin, Nowhere) returns with this naughty, kitschy melodrama based on Laura Kasischke's elegant novel. It's about a 17-year-old seductress (Shailene Woodley from The Descendants) whose mother (over-the-top-and-loving-it Eva Green) suffers a nervous breakdown and disappears from '80s-era suburbia without a trace. The main questions seem to be what happened to mom and when will our heroine lose her virginity. Araki tarts it up good with campy outfits, dreamy imagery and some Depeche Mode, causing the time-shifting mystery to skew more "Twin Peaks" than Nancy Drew. 91 minutes R.
