A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

The first-ever "vampire Western" made in the Farsi language, this impressionistic, slow-burn indie was shot in California (subbing for the Middle East) by writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour. In the fictional Iranian ghost town of Bad City, a lonely female vampire with a hijab and a skateboard wanders the streets at night looking for nourishment. She crosses paths with a prostitute, a street urchin and--most importantly--a handsome teenage hipster. Melancholy romance ensues. In Farsi with English subtitles. 99 minutes Unrated.
