Barry Levinson (Diner, Rain Man) directed and Buck Henry (The Graduate, Catch-22) adapted the screenplay for this comedy-drama based on the not-very-well-regarded novel of the same name by Philip Roth. Al Pacino plays an aging theater actor who's lost his talent for the stage. He finds motivation, however, by sleeping with his lustful, lesbian goddaughter (indie doll Greta Gerwig). It's some major, dirty-old-man wish fulfillment--but Pacino sure commits to it. Think half Birdman, half Woody Allen sex farce. 112 minutes R.
