The second French biopic in less than a year about infamous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent is hampered by a languid pace and a belief that explaining anything about the man in the title would simply be gauche. It looks great, fashioning a glossy version of drug-fuelled 1960s and '70s Paris. But ironically--considering the film is about a man famous for his impeccably modern tailoring--the film is too formless and shapeless to really teach us anything.
