A Poem Is a Naked Person: The Leon Russell Documentary

Back in 1974 musician/songwriter Leon Russell hired underground filmmaker Les Blank (Burden of Dreams, Garlic Is As Good As Ten Mothers, "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe") to shoot a documentary about his recording studio on Grand Lake of the Cherokees in Oklahoma. The feature-length film captures guest appearances by Willie Nelson, George Jones and others but was never released to the public. After Blank's death in 2013, his son Harrod re-mastered and rereleased the film with Russell's blessing. Here, then, is the result of this strange, trippy, 40-year endeavor. 89 minutes
