Merci pour le Chocolat

Director Claude Chabrol has helmed nearly 70 films, dating all the way back to 1959's Bitter Reunion. Thanks to films like Les Cousins and Les Bon Femmes, he is considered one of the founders of the French New Wave movement. At age 72 he turns in this twisty thriller starring Isabelle Huppert about a young girl who believes she might have been exchanged at birth with the child of a famous pianist. The girl's search for the truth unearths some dark family secrets (along with a possible murder). A master of the mystery genre, Chabrol uses this Hitchcockian plot to expose the ugly underbelly of the French upper crust. In French with English subtitles. 99 minutes
