Marcel L'Herbier's avant-garde 1924 "sci-fi melodrama" follows a famed prima donna (opera singer Georgette Leblanc) who declares an intention to end her life after fleeing from the passionate young scientist who dreams of courting her. Plot aside, the film famously brought together various figures of the modern art movement including painter Fernand Léger, architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, glassmaker René Lalique and fashion designer Paul Poiret. It remains one of the most dazzling examples of cinematic modernity ever recorded. This version features a newly recorded score by Alloy Orchestra. 135 minutes Unrated.
