Sidney Lumet's hard-edged 1976 satire of modern media seems more prescient every year. Peter Finch stars as fading newscaster Howard Beale, who decides he's going to commit suicide on air as a protest against the banality and "bullshit" of life. Surprisingly, his "I'm mad as hell" speech fires up a revolution among viewers, causing his ratings to spike. Suddenly, he's a media sensation. Unfortunately, the "mad prophet of the airwaves" soon devolves into the exact sort of corporate sellout he was railing against in the first place. Faye Dunaway, William Holden and Robert Duvall all turn in stunning performances as well. 121 minutes
