Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

George Clooney tries his hand at directing and does a quite admirable job in this surprisingly serious adaptation of "Gong Show" creator Chuck Barris' oddball autobiography. According to Barris, he was a secret CIA assassin who was bumping off foreign agents while working as an "escort" on his infamous "Dating Game" show. (Sure, why not?) Up-and-comer Sam Rockwell is great as the amoral TV producer/killer, and the film serves up a few delicious cameos courtesy of Mr. Clooney and his Tinseltown connections. Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) infuses the story with a sharp, nihilistic sense of humor. 113 minutes
