Director Wes Craven's notoriously dark 1972 debut launched his long career, ushered in the brutal realism of '70s horror films (two years before Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and got banned in a whole lotta countries. In it, two young girls on their way to a concert are captured, tortured and humiliated by a band of drug-addled psychos--who are subsequently captured, tortured and humiliated by the girls' parents.
