Toho Studios resurrects Godzilla with this 2016 reboot. The Japanese government is thrown into chaos when a rapidly mutating, nuclear-powered amphibian rises up from Tokyo Bay looking to dish out some major destruction. The giant monster action—as in most Godzilla movies—takes a backseat to the human drama. But the action that's there is impressive, and the story—about a low-level cabinet official unwittingly tasked with stopping this creature before the U.N. opts to nuke Tokyo—is appropriately tense. Writer-director Hideaki Anno ("Neon Genesis Evangelion") offers up this modern, high-tech take on the King of Monsters.FULL REVIEW:Godzilla raids again in muscular Japanese reboot by Devin D.
