Shot Caller

Shot Caller

A happily married, suit-wearing Wall Street stock broker (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from "Game of Thrones") kills someone in a drunk driving accident, is sent to jail and immediately transforms into a pumped-up, neck-tattoo-sporting Neo-Nazi gang member. Stuntman-turned-filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh (Felon, Snitch) ricochets around in time showing our protagonist's rough time in jail and his attempt to (sort of) go straight after he gets out of jail. There's a certain veracity to the nitty-gritty details, but the film is far too melodramatic and drags out its chopped-up storyline for far too long to have the gut-punch hit it wants. FULL REVIEW: Prison drama succeeds in making life behind bars look bad—which isn’t much of a challenge, really by Devin D. O’Leary (8/17/2017). 121 minutes R. (Opens Friday 8/18)
