Animator Joan Gratz won an Oscar for her short film "Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase." Her fluid, impressionistic style stands in stark contrast to other, edgier modern animators. She helped pioneer the "claypainting" technique, in which layers of clay are worked like oil paints. Among her animated impressions are "Candy Jam," "Pro & Con," and "The Dowager's Feast." A must for fans of artistic animation.
